Building Career Pathways through Registered Apprenticeships

“Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”

When I graduated from high school, I was given the ever so popular poem written by Dr. Seuss, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” It explores themes of identity in a world full of divergent paths filled with not only excitement about one’s future, but the trials and tribulations many face throughout their lives.

Fast-forward 32 years, and as I rummage through boxes of personal relics, I stumble upon this now aged book. Reading it again, I am struck by how relevant the advice from Dr. Seuss still is today. I reflect upon the trajectory of my own career filled with success, but also failure as well, vital to my growth and humbling me along the way.

I tell you this because I was often asked as many are, “What do you want to do when you grow up?” For some, this might be a single path with only one destination. However, my paths have been numerous and full of switchbacks, leading me to places I least expected. For that reason, I am passionate about helping others explore and develop career pathways, providing a not-so-proverbial map for guidance.

At present, my path is with the ApprenticeshipNH team, helping employers develop apprenticeship programs while connecting job seekers to these amazing opportunities. ApprenticeshipNH is dedicated to promoting high-quality registered apprenticeships and pre-apprenticeships throughout New Hampshire, and has been instrumental in enhancing workforce training opportunities. Please see the following ways ApprenticeshipNH could help you!

Develop Career Pathways

Outside of my role with ApprenticeshipNH, I am a small business owner who struggles with obtaining qualified employees. I understand how difficult it is in today’s climate to attract and retain a diverse workforce. If you are an employer facing similar challenges, you may want to consider learning more about what is involved in developing registered apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs. Whether you are in construction, healthcare, manufacturing, or another industry, a Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) can help you develop a talent pipeline that will reduce employee turnover. In fact, studies have shown that businesses who implement RAPs have greater employee loyalty, increased productivity, and an improved bottom line.

Connect Job Seekers to Career Pathways

Whether you are at the beginning of your journey or contemplating a new career, exploring how to become an apprentice could be just what you are looking for! During an apprenticeship, you earn while you learn, gaining essential new skills and a quality education with little to no debt. To quote Dr. Seuss, “You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go.” The decision is yours, however, ApprenticeshipNH is here to help you choose the next destination as well as support you along the way.
