What were you doing before you became an apprentice? Did you have any ideas about career paths you would like to pursue?
I was working as a Licensed Nursing Assistant at the hospital. I knew I wanted to stay in healthcare, but wanted an opportunity with a more consistent schedule.
How did you hear about the apprenticeship opportunity and what made it seem like a good fit for you?
I remember seeing it posted on an internal job board. It immediately struck me because it sounded like an amazing opportunity. I was excited about the opportunity to get paid to go to school so that I wouldn’t have to miss out on receiving an income. It seemed like a good opportunity for upward mobility.
How long is your apprenticeship, and how far along are you right now?
The apprenticeship was about two and half years long, and I am now finished. I am working at a doctor’s office in Belmont and still employed by LRGHealthcare. I’ve been working here for about three years and have built a good rapport with the people in my office.
What has been the best part of your experience as an apprentice so far?
I feel like I’ve learned so much. I have gotten a chance to experience so many different things, and now that I am working it feels really rewarding to help patients.
What are some of the biggest ways you feel your apprenticeship has impacted you?
It helped me feel like I could get ahead without falling behind. I was able to further my education without having to stop working or lose my income.
How has this experience compared to other jobs you have had?
It’s been great. I feel like I have had so much support, and I’ve been encouraged to keep going and try new things. The company really encourages me to better myself.
How has this apprenticeship helped you with meeting your career goals/plans?
It’s given me confidence. I tell myself: if I can do this, what else can I do?
