CCSNH Launched State’s First Licensed Practical Nurse ApprenticeshipNH Program in the Lakes Region

Concord, N.H. (September 1, 2022) – With a growing need for healthcare workers across the state and in the Lakes Region, ApprenticeshipNH, a workforce program of the Community College System of New Hampshire, partnered with Healthcare Career Advancement Program (HCAP) launched New Hampshire’s first Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Registered Apprenticeship program. In partnership with Golden View Health Care Center, an independent non-profit healthcare community in Meredith, and LNA Health Careers, a healthcare training program, the LPN program will use ApprenticeshipNH’s “earn while you learn” model to meet workforce demands in one of the state’s largest industries.

“We are thrilled to offer the first Licensed Practical Nurse Registered Apprenticeship program in the state with Golden View to help fill the critical healthcare workforce need in the state,” said Tracey Jackson, CCSNH ApprenticeshipNH grant manager. “What a great opportunity for apprentices to enter a healthcare pathway by training for an in-demand LPN position, earning an income while training, and attaining the classroom instruction aligned with their on-the-job experience.”

The one-year LPN program combines over 2,000 hours of on-the-job training with 61-credits of coursework provided by LNA Health Careers. Apprentices will have the unique opportunity to work under a mentor and will be trained to carry out LPN duties in a nursing facility. The program is designed to be flexible and accessible for the apprentices as they work and complete their on-the-job training. As a competency-based program, apprentices will have the opportunity for progressive wage increases.

LPNs are critical for patient care at long-term care facilities and assist with overall care and comfort. According to NH’s Economic Labor Market Information Bureau short-term projections for 2021 to 2023, nearly 600 open LPN positions exist throughout New Hampshire, signaling strong employment opportunities for apprentices.

“Programs such as this are of the utmost importance in sustaining access to our healthcare services for the citizens of the Lakes Region and New Hampshire as a whole,” said Rosemary Simino, Golden View administrator. “The LPN Registered Apprenticeship Program helps our employees advance their careers and helps promote growth in our existing workforce. To be the first in the state to offer a program like this is such an honor.”

ApprenticeshipNH has a history of assisting New Hampshire employers with Registered Apprenticeships, pre-apprenticeships and programs with high school students as proven recruitment strategies. As a Registered Apprenticeship program with the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) Office of Apprenticeship, apprentices participate in an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where employers can develop and prepare their future workforce, and individuals can obtain paid work experience, classroom instruction, and a portable, nationally recognized credential.

The ApprenticeshipNH was established in 2017 and is funded by  grants from the U.S. Department of Labor to assist employers building registered apprenticeships, pre-apprentice and high school programs in high-demand sectors including advanced manufacturing, automotive technology, biomedical technology, business and finance construction and infrastructure, healthcare, hospitality and information technology. ApprenticeshipNH assists companies with recruiting, screening, and hiring potential apprentices, as well as accessing resources in the state that help to fund apprentice training and education.
