Apprentices to be Trained as Maintenance Repairers at Lakes Region Community College

Another New Hampshire company is taking advantage of opportunities to enhance the skills of its employees through combined on-the-job and classroom training. That company is Freudenberg Sealing Technologies of Bristol.

Freudenberg is a specialized advanced manufacturing company and has launched a new partnership with Lakes Region Community College (LRCC) and ApprenticeshipNH. Operated through the Community College System of New Hampshire in Concord, ApprenticeshipNH addresses workforce needs through focused education and training programs in the information technology, advanced manufacturing and healthcare sectors. Through this partnership, apprentices will take credit-bearing courses at LRCC. As a result, new Registered Apprenticeship opportunities are created for Freudenberg employees to pursue advanced career pathways.

“Freudenberg’s new partnership with ApprenticeshipNH and LRCC enables Freudenberg employees to explore new opportunities,” said Emily Zeien, grant manager for ApprenticeshipNH. “Demonstrating a dedication to employees by first offering apprenticeship opportunities to incumbent workers, the new partnership also equips the company with a pipeline of talent. Employees who participate in the program will move into higher-level positions that require more skills and earn more. This will open up entry-level opportunities for those who are starting or changing careers.”

Freudenberg Sealing Technologies is a supplier, development and service partner for numerous market segments including automotive, mechanical engineering and agriculture. Freudenberg’s Registered Apprenticeship program trains apprentices to become maintenance repairers. The three-year program requires 688 hours of classroom instruction and 6,400 hours of on-the-job training. The classroom portion of the program will be completed first at Lakes Region Community College before apprentices transition to on-the-job training.

“All of the apprentices in Freudenberg’s program will receive college credit from Lakes Region Community College for the majority of the courses they complete,” said Larissa Baia, Interim President at LRCC. “Partnering with local business to provide increased opportunities for New Hampshire residents is a point of pride for LRCC. We welcome the opportunity to help educate Freudenberg’s apprentices, and hope the partnership will continue long into the future.”

Freudenberg apprentices will be paid a progressively increasing schedule of wages based on a percentage or dollar amount of the current hourly journey worker wage rate. During the first year of the program, apprentices will complete 2,133 hours at a pay rate of $16.00 per hour. The second year of the program includes 2,133 hours at a pay rate of $16.60 per hour, and the third year includes 2,134 hours at a rate of $17.20 per hour.
